Commencing immediately after our Annual General Meeting, the conference is the key note event being held by RCN as part of the Rural Enabler Programme’s Rural Respect Week.
In from the Edge will explore three key areas which impact on communities living in the Border Regions on Northern Ireland and the six Border Counties of Ireland. Delegates will hear about the challenges of rural peripherality in the border region with examples of innovation community solutions from organisations based on both sides of the border.
The recent controversy surrounding the erection and in some areas dismantling of 'Welcome to Northern Ireland' road signs is a timely reminder of the continuing sensitivities of the border. But for many in these border regions, the issue of signage is something of a distraction to how they have to manage their everyday lives, access services and support and their continued management of community/good relations in an effort to build rural communities that are cohesive, shared and integrated.
RCN looks forward to welcoming delegates from across Northern Ireland and the Border Counties of Ireland to this conference. Your attendance can bring some comfort to those communities living on the edge that they are not forgotten, that they are very much part of the wider rural community and that sense or indeed reality of living on the edge is something that we all can commit to addressing.
Please note transport may be available from each County depending on demand, please email hazel@ruralcommunitynetwork.org or telephone the office if you are interested of availing of this transport.
